Sensory Lumen - Lightbox Acrylic
This project is part of my broader research into designing sensory-friendly objects for neurodivergent individuals, specifically autistic individuals and those with sensory processing disorder (SPD).
I’m exploring how light interacts with acrylic, and how changing the material’s properties can create dynamic visual effects. I’m using laser cutting and engraving to manipulate the surface of acrylic. Changing textures, adding patterns, overlaying colours, and playing with scale.
The goal is to understand how different surface treatments, like texture, opacity, magnification, and diffusion, change the way light behaves, and how those effects can support sensory regulation.
